How to Use TP-Link Tether Without a TP-Link ID
A simple guide on using the TP-Link Tether mobile app without creating an online TP-Link ID
I have a TP-Link router at home and usually use a web browser to access its configuration.
Lately, though, I’ve been too lazy to open my MacBook for this. So, I installed TP-Link Tether on my iPhone, planning to access it from my mobile.
To my surprise, it asked me to create an online TP-Link ID just to access my home router locally!
That’s unacceptable. I firmly believe you shouldn’t need an online vendor account to access hardware you own.
Fortunately, bypassing the TP-Link ID requirement is very simple.
All you need to do is change your region!
By default, my region was set to the United States. But if you change it to a country in the EU or United Kingdom, a Skip button will appear. Once you click Skip, you’ll be taken to the main app.
Now you can access and configure your home router without needing a TP-Link ID!
Here’s a video I created to show you how it’s done.
I hope companies understand that if they create an app for accessing hardware we’ve purchased, they shouldn’t force us to create an online account. Not cool!
